TV Melt

The TV-Melt was inspired by a picture in a book, yes, that’s what I said. I had been playing with the idea
of mini Simmons type design with more of a modern outline, and then while looking through a
favorite surfboard book I found a picture that said, 5″7″ Haden. The board pictured was a single fin knee
board shaped by an Australian named Haden Kenny in the style of George Greenough’s 60’s spoons and
fitted with a high aspect ratio fin.
That was all well and good, but it was the outline that got my attention, so using the picture as a
reference, I modeled this outline after it. My version isn’t a spoon like the board I was referring to… but I
have to give credit where credit is due and the inspiration resulted in what I call the TV-Melt. It’s a retro
design with a rolled entry like the mini Simmons, but I ran a slight double barreled concave from center
and off the tail through a panel vee, instead of the “Simmons” style concave. I also designed a special
keel template with less area in the tip, and toed them in a touch more than on my other retro designs
for added maneuverability.
